About the course

Two weeks of tattoo training in Birmingham

This is the course to start with. Over 10 days in our Birmingham city centre studio, you go from setting up a machine for the first time to tattooing real skin, taught throughout by working artists from The Collective.

No tattoo experience is needed. The course suits creative people from any background, whether that's art, design, beauty, piercing or a sketchbook you've filled at home. It's a good fit if:

  • You're starting from nothing and want a thorough grounding
  • You draw a lot and want to see your designs on skin
  • You've hunted for an apprenticeship with no luck. See our guide to tattoo apprenticeships in Birmingham
  • You can take two weeks off, Monday to Friday

FAQ

Tattoo Training questions

Can't see yours? Email hello@birminghamtattooacademy.co.uk.

I've never picked up a tattoo machine. Is this course for me?

Yes. It's built for complete beginners, and for newer artists who want their foundations done properly before they approach studios.

How is the course structured?

It's 10 teaching days, Monday to Friday over two weeks. Each date in the list above shows when that course starts and finishes.

Do I get to tattoo real people?

Yes. By the end of the course you tattoo real skin, with a trainer supervising.

Is there a shorter option?

If you can't take two weeks off, look at the 5 day Hybrid Tattoo Course. You study the theory at home, then come in for a 5 day practical.

Will this help me register with Birmingham City Council?

Registration is the council's decision, so no course can guarantee it. What you get is a grounding in the hygiene standards Environmental Health look for, and a CPD accredited certificate that helps you get the insurance you'll need.

Can I book with a deposit?

Yes. Pay a deposit when you book online and the balance later. Our terms say when it's due.

Small classes. Places go quickly.
